Lower Cribden Avenue Residents Group Events

Previous events and photographs

The Royal Wedding was celebrated on the Avenue by a Street Party. The food was fantastic - everyone shared their contribution:

Table

The guests of honour were our senior residents Hugh and Maura Spink who cut the wedding cake, made in their image by Anna Ainsworth. It was superb.

Thanks to the Ainsworths and Jean Smith for all their organisation and again to the Ainsworths for organising a piano party in their home later that evening.

The Safari Supper was held on Saturday 12th February 2011 and, as ever, was a huge success. Once again thanks go to Mary Clare Ainsworth and Sue Smith for the amazing organisation.

Celebrating the life of Liz Wilkinson

Liz

Jean and Colin Smith hosted a super cheese and wine evening on 6th September to celebrate the life of Liz Wilkinson and to raise money for the British Lung Foundation. It was a huge success and Steve, Hannah and Amy were delighted that the donations amounted to £725. This, with £1000 from the Lower Cribden Avenue Millennium Fund, was sent to the British Lung Foundation. Pictures of the event will be posted shortly

This evening was an excellent tribute to Liz, a great Mum and neighbour, and it was lovely to share our memories of her on this night through our usual master of ceremonies Bob Collins. It was the kind of 'do' that Liz enjoyed and a super way of rasing money for a fund that might one day be able to save others who contract the same disease that took Liz from us.

Jean would like to thank all Steve & Liz's family and friends attending, the artistic team headed by Mary-Clare and Amy Wilkinson for the wonderful bunting and decorations, everyone for the lovely flowers, plants and wine contributionsand, of course, Bob Collins. Apparently we managed to polish off just over 50 bottles of wine on the night!

8th August 2008

Paul Dutton's 50th Birthday party

This action packed event was held at St Mary's Chambers in Rawtenstall and enjoyed by many of the Lower Cribden Avenue residents. See photos at http://www.pixelpaparazzi.co.uk/pauls50th/

2007 Events

Champagne Evening

The Champagne Dinner hosted by The Dining Room & Stevenson’s Wine Merchants held on Friday 7th December 2007 was a great success. Sincere thanks to Jean Smith for organising this, and the transport to get us all there. A big thank you also to Yvonne Herrick for making a wonderful Christmas Cake for the lucky winner. You web mistress was disappointed not to win but was thrilled when another of Yvonne's amazing cakes arrived courtesy of David's Delivereeze (well Bob's car actually).

Safari Supper

On Saturday 27th October 2007 Sue and Mary Clare organised yet another successful Safari Supper with the Bonham's bravely hosting the coffee course. Our thanks to everyone who made this event as successful as ever, once again rasing money for the Lower Cribden Avenue Millennium Fund.

Champagne Dinner hosted by The Dining Room & Stevenson’s Wine Merchants - Friday 7th December 2007

Avenue residents and friends enjoyed a four course gourmet dinner complimented by a selection of champagnes, to accompany each course. A generous donation was made to the LCA Millennium Fund. All 36 diners enjoyed splendid food, excellent champagne and wine as well a good company. Jean Smith and Alison Dutton did a great job organising the event.

Saturday 7th July

A team of residents, family and friends of LCA took part in the 24 hour Relay for Life walk at Marl Pits on 7/8th July. The weather was kind to all, staying dry for the entire time! The relay indicates that cancer never sleeps. A very moving ceremony took place at dusk when Candles of Hope were lit around the course in remembrance and celebration of cancer sufferers.

The LCA team raised a fantastic £1,444.00 for Cancer Research

Garden Party of the year

Saturday 30th June

It rained and it rained, but no one was deterred and there was a full attendance at the official opening of Hugh and Maura's new garden by the Three Graces. As ever, the catering was excellent and in an abundance, including a chocolate fountain. The barbecue was used almost non-stop with a production line of ribs, burgers and sausages.

Three Graces

A big thank you to Hugh and Maura for a super day and for smiling through the torrential rain making us all glad that we made the effort despite the weather. See if you were caught on camera here.

Car Rally and Treasure Hunt on Sunday 24th June

The Car Rally and Treasure Hunt organised by Jean and Colin Smith was a great success. Everyone made it to the final destination without too much of a problem and the winners were the Peet Family, with 2nd place to the Collins, closely followed by the Nedwells!! We won't mention the lowest point scorers!! Cafe Artisan provided the treasure hunters with good food.

The next one is already prepared for possibly Easter next year. In addiiton, a 'walking' one is in the pipeline, leaving the Avenue on foot and exploring Rawtenstall Town centre to notice things we normally pass by - and of course collect the all important treasures and solve clues!

£120 was raised for the LCA Charity fund from a fun Sunday afternoon, with not one divorce pending!!!

French Cheese & Wine

The French evening at Jean and Colin Smith's on 3rd February was a huge success raising a fantastic £565 for Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research. To see photos from the event click here.

Leaf ceremony at Rossendale Hospice

Here's a lovely photograph of those who represented the Avenue when a commemorative gold leaf was added to the wall to record another £1000 donated from the Lower Cribden Avenue Millennium Fund. A fantastic fund raising achievement. Well done everyone.
